A Child’s First Bible (1990)—A few years after the success of The Doubleday Illustrated Children’s Bible, the publisher returned to the author and asked her to create an even simpler version of the story suitable for the youngest readers. A Child’s First Bible distills the entire narrative into a spare 95 pages, again lushly illustrated by Tony Chen, with the author aiming to reflect as much of the story’s “compelling truth and beauty as possible in a very limited space, and in the plainest of language.”
